HARD LIGHT 5th - 23rd October

This exhibition, by Alex Schneideman, is a series of large black and white prints of Taroudant taken in 2011. It is the culmination of many visits by the photographer to the ancient Berber city of Taroudant which lies in the Souss Valley, south of the Atlas mountains in Morocco.

Since the 10th century Taroudant has been one of the main northern trading points for the caravans which cross the Sahara. The city has changed little with most of its inhabitants still living within its ancient medina.

The conditions in Taroudant, where harsh desert light creates shadows and glare that trick the eye, demands an instinctive response from the photographer. The sunlight etches every surface with miniscule detail and nothing escapes its withering power.

A book "HARD LIGHT"  is available showing all the images in this series
